I finished my undergraduate study at Shahid Beheshti University of Tehran, Iran (2002-2006). My exceeding interest in Signal Processing began in my last year of undergraduate studies when I worked on my final project (BS Thesis). I began to study System Identification, Adaptive Filters and Statistical Signal Processing parallel to my courses. I am proud to say that the paper, based on my thesis, was accepted and published in IEEE, ICEE2007. It was about the application of genetic algorithm in estimating the parameters of a DC motor. I passed 3 months internship course in “Pishraneh Corporation” in which I got familiar with some interesting applications of Electrical Engineering in industry such as Power Switching Supply and High Frequency Filter Design. Also, I held teaching assistantship of one or two courses every semester, dealing with students one or two years younger than me.
I continued my graduate studies as a master student at Shahrood (Shahroud) University of Technology (2006 to 2008). I graduated, ranked first, with GPA 18.47 (out of20). During the master study I became more familiar with DSP theory and applications. I passed 1-DSP, 2-Advanced Mathematical Engineering, 3-Linear Integrated Circuits, 4-Digital Image Processing, 5-Speech Processing, 6-Computer Interfacing, 7-High frequency circuits design, 8-Semiconductor Theory and 9-Verbal presentation skills.
I always try to do my best in every situation. It is my viewpoint that I can make my own future and I should attempt to grasp any appropriate opportunities for my progress and not leave things to chance. This viewpoint is reflected in my efforts to publish five papers in international IEEE conferences (the complete list of my papers exists in my CV) during my MSc study. These papers are about different topics in DSP such as Statistical Signal Processing, Filter Designing and Speech Processing also it should be noted that all of them have been prepared during my MSc courses. Besides my professors’ great advices, I have prepared those papers independently. Having been involved in indicating and publishing my ideas has caused to adapt my capabilities in research programs with international qualities.
I have tried to perform a thorough study on both 1-D and 2-D digital signal processing. The research projects I am involved in are divided to two parts:
First, the research project on "Glottal Pulse Estimation using Higher Order Statistics" under supervision of Professor M.H. Savoji, supported by Shahid Beheshti University of Iran. For doing this project I needed to study and understand the field of Statistical Signal Processing and Speech Processing involving some hot topics such as blind system identification, blind deconvolution and speech synthesis.
Second, my MSc dissertation, that is about "Ear Biometrics Using Topographic Labels". I have always enjoyed studying image processing therefore; I decided to concentrate on this field. After I got familiar with the strong capability of topographic labels in identifying the geometric properties, I intended to use this topic in the ear biometrics because firstly, the ears include a complicated structure whose geometric properties can be useful for ear recognition and secondly, the ear biometrics is one of the recent topics in image processing and pattern recognition. We have reached promising results in both "Ear Segmentation and Identification". These results are going to be presented in an international journal of signal and image processing. Besides, my paper which is about “Robust Ear Segmentation using Topographic Labels” has been accepted by VISAPP 2009, International Conference on Computer Vision Theory and Applications.
I believe that the main advantage of doing those projects and researches is learning how to be independent researcher. I have understood that for doing every research successfully, I should study about the research topic, gather enough knowledge about that, consider my professor’s technical advices and doing my best based on these advices.
